DESIGN
PROCESS
GRACE
The finished collection is a result of three months work, countless hours of ideation, carefully considered design principles, hand-drawn sketches, 2D drawings, 3D files, and both 3-D printed prototypes as well as prototypes produced at the jewelry work-bench.
EMPATHIZE
In the initial emphasizing phase of the design process we conducted an extensive brand analysis of Marc’Harit, in order to understand to company and its customers, and thus who to design for. This brand analysis investigates the Marketing Mix, key competitors and competitive ad-vantage, the potential target/customer profile, and in-cludes a SWOT-analysis and a Blue Ocean Analysis.
DEFINE
From the brand analisys we created the persona for whom we would design the collection. From the persona we created our guiding design drivers and a moodboard.
IDEATE
Alongside the Tahiti pearl, the Möbius strip was the main inspiration for the collection. It is a surface with only one side and only one boundary curve.
We placed the beautiful Tahiti pearl on the curve of the Möbius strip, right where the strip twists to create synergy between the geometric and the organic.
PROTOTYPE AND TEST
The prototypes where created by playing with tin foil and clay, and by sketching directly in Rhino. The finished prototypes where casted from wax models and finished at the jewelers workbench. We also created 3D-printed prototypes for the display and digital prototypes for the packaging. The jewelry was tested at an exhibition where the founder of Marc’Harit would view and evaluate the prototypes.
STORYTELLING
There is beauty in the mysteries of life in all its duality; is is simple and complex, violent and kind, geometric and organic.
An example of this balance is the Möbius strip; a mathe-matical, geometric concept with no boundaries, a never ending, continuous surface, that appears both simple yet complex to understand - just like life and just like natu-re. As a fascinating example of the wonders that nature can provide, we have the pearl, a living gem that has cap-tivated humans for centuries and centuries.
PACKAGING
The packaging consists of a small drawer box in FSC cer-tified wood, painted matte with a lux texture. The drawer box is designed to spark curiosity of what’s inside; opening the box will reveal the jewelry resting on a rich velvet cushion, underneath a small, delicate, trans-parent note that tells the story of the inspiration for the jewelry collection.
This will leave the customer with the feeling of having received something truly precious.
